Retries with backoff & jitter
Backoff makes each retry wait longer than the last, and jitter adds randomness to the wait, so many clients retrying at once spread out instead of arriving together.
100 phones, all at once
The cookie shop's computer stops working just as 100 kids try to order. Ava and Ben are fixing it. Every phone keeps trying again until its order goes through.
